Titel: CBM Dipole Magnet

Beschreibung: Superconducting dipole magnet for the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR. The magnet houses the Silicon Tracking System (STS) and provides a magnetic field integral of 1 Tm which is needed to obtain a momentum resolution of ?p/p < 2% for track reconstruction at FAIR beam energies. The magnet gap has a height of 147 cm and a width of 330 cm in order to accommodate the STS detector. The magnet is of the H-type with a warm iron yoke/pole and cylindrical superconducting coils in two separate casings like the SAMURAI magnet at RIKEN. The potted coil uses Nb-Ti wire with a large Cu/SC ratio. The coil case made of stainless steel contains liquid helium for cooling. The vertical force in the coils is about 300 tons. The cold mass is suspended from the room-temperature vacuum vessel by suspension links. Cylindrical support struts compensate for the vertical forces. The energy stored in the magnet is about 5 MJ. The magnet will be self-protecting. However, in order to limit the temperature rise to 120 K in case of a quench, the energy will be dumped in an external resistor.

Beschreibung: Technical Concept = 50% The detailed description of the conceptual implementation should compre-hensibly show how the bidder will achieve compliance with the technical specifi-cations. This includes a description of the project planning including resource planning and estimated coordination effort. a) Description of the tools, packaging, transportation safety devices etc., neces-sary for the safe transport of the magnet. b) Description of the welding concept (implementation, monitoring and testing), incl. the use of qualified welding experts and tools. c) Procurement planning, in particular the acquisition of the super-conducting cable, the yoke material and the cryogenic components. d) Detailed list of the essential personal working on the project (project manager and deputy, responsible engineer, magnet designer, production manager, etc.). e) Availability of the production facility. f) The bidder has to describe the project-specific QA/QC-planning, including the design phase, production and procurement of tools, used materials, production, assembly, installation, commissioning, documentation, and task management. 1.2.) The bidder shall describe possible challenges and risks for the accomplish-ment of the specifications, and identify and present appropriate approaches. This means, the bidder shall develop a design, which includes: a) the coil cooling concept and the layout of the cryogenic system b) the coil winding procedure using a cable with a Cu/SC ratio above 5 c) the mechanical structure of the cold-to-warm-supports d) the construction and test of a mock-up coil e) the design of the iron yoke f) the plan for production and assembly of the components g) detailed calculations of all mechanical forces, the magnetic field distribution, and the quench protection h) the FAT/test plan i) the confirmation, that all standards and guidelines to be observed are met. The completeness and the plausibility of the provided information will be evaluated. Expediency = 20% Expediency means the appropriateness of the approach of the bidder, which should be described accordingly. As the manpower resources of FAIR are limited, and only a limited number of staff members are involved in this project, we highly appreciate short communi-cation channels and few central contact persons on the side of the bidder. The comprehensible presentation of such capacities for the production is also appre-ciated. This includes a certain flexibility for adjustment to revised requirements or to temporal modifications, which might show up during the development pro-cess. In this respect, the bidder should address the following points in more de-tail: a) Actual and future projects with respect to the available resources of manpow-er, equipment, and rooms, which are required for the design, production, test and delivery of the magnet within the proposed time line (resource utilization). b) Due to the necessary longevity of the magnet, it will also be evaluated posi-tively if the bidder can comprehensibly demonstrate that due to the material selection and the intended manufacturing method, the magnet will be low-maintenance on the one hand, and on the other hand, FAIR can be provided with all necessary tools and knowledge for maintenance (e.g. also within the scope of the documentation). The completeness and the plausibility of the provided information will be evaluated. Detailed Schedule = 30% It is particularly important to the client that the bidder provides a reliable and detailed production and delivery plan of its own in relation to the schedule pro-posed by the client (taking into account the procurement processes). The indi-vidual process steps should be evident in the plan. The schedule provided with the contract should be critically evaluated and plausibly supplemented with an explanation, in all phases of the project: design, production of the components, assembly of the components, factory acceptance tests. The completeness and plausibility of the information is evaluated.
