81292306 - PtX Outreach
Economies must transform fast if they are to reach climate neutrality by 2050. While electrification with 100% renewable energy (RE) is key for this transformation, some sectors cannot yet be directly electrified. Power-to-X (PtX) is the missing link: it can power anything formerly dependent on fossil fuels with RE and carbon. E-fuels and sustainable chemicals can defossilise high-emissions industries, like the chemical, fertiliser, steel, and cement industry, as well as aviation and maritime transport. PtX also holds tremendous potential for developing countries and emerging economies, enabling them to accelerate their economic development and decrease their dependency on fossil fuel imports. The International PtX Hub wants to make knowledge on PtX accessible to partner countries worldwide and create a level playing field for all actors.
The International PtX Hub is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). Financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), the PtX Hub is a contribution to Germany"s 2020 National Hydrogen Strategy and represents one of the four pillars of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection"s (BMUV) PtX action program initiated in 2019.
One of the PtX Hub"s primary goals has been to establish a thorough HCD concept for Renewable PtX, so far centred on the delivery of a comprehensive basic Renewable PtX training module. In 2021 and the first half of 2022, numerous training events were held, delivering this basic training in international cooperation partner countries as well as in Germany. The basic training module is delivered over three days, with the third day comprising an interactive transfer workshop.
In 2023, the basic training will be successively complemented with target-group, sector-specific add-on modules. Through further dialogue, decision-makers from politics, business, science and civil society will be encouraged to engage in international exchange. The PtX Hub will also roll out innovative new approaches for knowledge transfer and skills development in the form of web-based trainings and bite-sized explanatory videos on the PtX concept. Furthermore, train-of-trainer events will be held to grow the cohort of Renewable PtX trainers and increase the number of qualified multipliers in PtX Hub and GIZ partner countries.
Central to the success of these different measures is the close involvement of competent trainers from relevant fields (e.g RE, green H2, PtX) with energy-technology and economic expertise. In addition to subject-matter and pedagogical expertise, trainers should ideally have intercultural experience in international cooperation and, if possible, in the GIZ project environment.
Due to the high demand for Renewable PtX training, the PtX Hub is seeking to create a team of trainers to work with our current trainer in Germany. Specifically, the Hub is looking for trainers who are convinced of the benefits of Renewable PtX and can support the implementation of the Hub's international training in close coordination with the team and/ or independently. The trainer, in collaboration with the team, will be expected to prepare, follow-up and evaluate the Hub"s PtX training offer. The trainer will also actively support the development of existing modules and of new and additional subject-specific add-on modules and web-based formats, as set out in the PtX Hub"s plans.
This call for proposals is aimed professionals with several years of specific work experience who can support, deliver and further develop the existing Renewable PtX training.

The basic training module is delivered over three days, with the third day comprising an interactive transfer workshop.
Alongside standards and certification, the sustainability aspects of PtX are a key concern of the PtX Hub. These aspects therefore feature strongly in the basic Renewable PtX training module, which addresses the essential concepts around allocation and the development of policy aspects, technical requirements/necessities and economic basics, and the importance of renewable energy.
In 2023, the basic training will be successively complemented with target-group, sector-specific add-on modules. Through further dialogue, decision-makers from politics, business, science and civil society will be encouraged to engage in international exchange. GIZ may optionally commission contract amendments and/or increases based on the criteria in the tender documents to the successful bidder of this tender. For details, please see the terms of reference.
