A scanning quantum magnetometer shall be acquired at the Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research (FWIQ) at HZDR. This instrument will be available for cutting-edge research in the fields of energy, health and matter, as well as serving as a test infrastructure for quantum sensor technology in Saxony. The device should be based on a single nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond mounted on a cantilever, enabling simultaneous acquisition of the sample’s topography and its surface magnetic fields with nanoscale resolution. The device should operate at room temperature under ambient conditions and provide magnetic field sensitivity better than 10 uT per square root Hz with spatial resolution better than 100 nm. It should also have close-loop sample positioning and scanner. The system should be compatible with an optional source of magnetic field and optional sampler heater. The overall goal is to expand the spectrum of innovative instruments at HZDR and to intensify activities in the field of quantum technologies. Furthermore, the system should have an additional optical excitation/detection path to optionally extend the scanning quantum magnetometry for silicon vacancies in SiC.
The following parameters shall be achieved:
- Single NV center mounted on a cantilever as a magnetic field sensor providing sensitivity better than 10 uT/sqrt(Hz)
- XYZ piezo closed-loop scanner with scanning range not smaller than 80 um x 80 um x 10 um and resolution better than 0.3 nm
- Coarse sample positioning within range not smaller than 5 mm x 5 mm x 5 mm and resolution better than 2 um
- Magnetic spatial resolution better than 100 nm
- Green laser for excitation is provided
- Single photon counting module is included
- Microwave antenna with micropositioning or integration of scanning tip with microwaves
- Microwave source and amplifier are provided
- Software for DC magnetometry (updates included)
- Delivery has to took place 20 weeks after placing the order.
